Primary
cementing is the process of placing cement between the casing
to make a shield to well bore and to replace the mud by cement
slurry.
The primary cementing
process involves pumping of liquid cement through the casing,
around the bottom and into the annulus and replacing the drilling
fluid or formed mud. Cement is pumped in a manner which is
much higher in the well bore or casing annulus then inside
the casing to protect and isolate all the previous exposed
formation and also to protect casing against corrosion. In
today’s scenario, wells are much deeper and hotter as it was
in the past. This increased the complexity and engineering
techniques in drilling. No wonder therefore cementing and
casing operation has become one of the most important and
expensive phases of well drilling.
The essential factor
for a successful cementing job is the replacement of the drilling
mud or the well bore fluid with cement slurry. Removal of
mud depends on the various inter linked operations. This helps
bore hole to be stabilized, in gauge, free from cuttings and
severe Doglegs. The circulation of cement slurry at least
in one Hole volume is common processes, which breaks Mud Gel,
cleans the hole, homogenize the mud and ensures that gas is
not flowing.
The most common factor
for mud removal is the degree at which pipe is centered in
the well bore. When the pipe is not properly centered, as
is the case in most wells the moving fluid tends to move more
freely through the wider portion of the annulus and leave
displaced mud in narrow pockets in the cement sheath. The
undisplaced mud can cause problems with zonal isolation and
create the need for secondary cementing job. This results
in massive loss of time, labour, money and the overall production.
It has been observed that perfect centering is not possible
to give a stand off of 100%. A stand off ratio of 75% is considered
as a minimum requirement by most of the operators and it considered
as a good mud removal.
Therefore, at SledgeHammer,
the main critical part of centralizer, which is responsible
for centering of casing, all standoff and restoring force
is SPRING BOW, An in house production with adequate technique
in automated heat treatment furnace controls the uniformity
of required hardness of bow, resulti ng in better Stand off
& Restoring force for every Centralizers. Twice tested hardness
of each bow ensures the required uniform hardness. The 12
times pressing of each bow ensures the required spring action
for better Stand off & Restoring force. Our every Spring Bow
follows the Quality Standard as per API 10D norms. Testing
of Raw material, for Chemical Testing, Tensile, Yield, Elongation
and Bend testing on Most Modernize Spectro Meter and Tensile
tester Machines. At SledgeHammer we work with the best of
process techniques and quality products and always look for
the improvement.
